Thelma Parker Memorial Public Library opens registration for next First Saturday community art class

Island of Hawaii—Thelma Parker Memorial Public Library of the Hawaii State Public Library System will open registration on Sat., July 1, for the next First Saturday Community Art Class, The Importance of a Line, which will be held from 10 a.m. to noon on Sat., Aug. 5. The free First Saturday Community Art Classes are presented in partnership with the Waimea Arts Council

Waimea Arts Council artist Lorrie Taylor will lead the class for beginning artists ages 6+. Learn about the importance of lines and how lines on their own can create depth or distortion. Taylor will show students how to draw a 3-D hand using only lines. Students also will produce a topographical study using random shapes and a continuous line.

Classes are held in the library meeting room, with all supplies provided by the Waimea Arts Council. Class size is limited and advance registration at the library for each class is required.

To register, or for more information, call 808-887-6067. The Thelma Parker Memorial Public Library is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday, noon to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday.

Makapala water conservation notice cancelled

Effective immediately, the Department of Water Supply has cancelled the voluntary water conservation notice for all affected Makapala and Niuli‘i customers in North Kohala. Normal water use may now resume.
